Asia-Pacific Green Energy Trading Center (APGETC) is the only cross-regional and cross-country resource integration and trading platform in the Asia-Pacific region approved by the United Nations at the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference. It was officially established in Manila, Philippines on July 15, 2022.
The Asia-Pacific Green Energy Trading Center always takes “innovating the environmental energy trading mechanism and building an industrial chain of environmental protection services” as the central idea, and takes “interconnection, intercommunication，mutual sharing” as the purpose, and actively explores rights and interests transactions in the fields of energy conservation, emission reduction and the environment. The business covers carbon emission rights trading, certified voluntary emission reduction trading, carbon emission option trading, institutional custody, consulting and other carbon financial product services.
The Asia-Pacific Green Energy Trading Center undertakes the responsibilities of account establishment, qualification review, transaction management, and data maintenance of the carbon emissions trading system in the Asia-Pacific region. As of February 1, 2023, APGETC’s carbon rights trading monitoring and management branches have spread across 16 countries. Provide services such as account opening, trading, custody, settlement, and consulting for carbon emission quotas, certified voluntary emission reductions, and carbon quota option transactions in Asia-Pacific countries. In addition, market mechanism design, green development consultation, and low-carbon technology promotion have been carried out in 23 countries and regions, and good results have been achieved.
Together with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), APGETC has launched a number of green financial services such as green low-carbon consulting, green financial product development, and green project investment and financing. As the largest carbon trading organization in the Asia-Pacific region, APGETC, together with ADB and AIIB, provides online and offline training services for carbon trading and management in order to meet the market demand for carbon trading professionals. It is expected that by the end of 2023, a total of more than 100,000 professionals will have completed the training.
In March and April 2023, APGETC will co-host a new series of online seminars with the Asian Investment Bank (ADB), the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), the Reserve Bank of India, the Central Bank of Indonesia, the Central Bank of Saudi Arabia and the State Bank of Vietnam. Since the opening of APGETC in 2022, the cumulative trading volume has exceeded 500 million tons, and the cumulative trading volume has exceeded 7.6 billion US dollars. Donated more than 50 million US dollars in funds and materials to poor areas in Asia and Africa, Asian orphanages and nursing homes. In Asia, more than 10 volunteer organizations for environmental and climate protection have been established.
